Her wings were white, and the feathers were about a foot long each. She spread them effortlessly, and cast shadows in her huge ten foot wingspan. But though her shadows were wide, they were not tall. She was short for her age, five feet and a few inches, and skinny. But her smile, it shone softly like the moon...
He looked up at the luminous orb in the dark night sky, and tossed his head back in agony. His skin ripped, and tore at him, starting from his chest and working along his veins. He screamed in pain as his bones broke, and grew, his face morphing into a muzzle to change his scream into a howl. He cast a deep abyss of a shadow with his dark, nine foot body. Fur now covered every inch of his torso, and his claws were shining in the dark night. But his smile, it shone happily as a lover upon waking.
She flew low to the ground, dawn approaching, and grabbed a few flowers as she passed. They were pale white, and somewhat round. White-morning glory, she thought to herself, how lovely. She pulled up, and landed in a soft patch of grass near the forest. She folded her wings in, and lay down among the fallen pedals and leaves, waiting...
He ran fast along the forest floor, pounding past startled deer, and a small wolf that barked in greeting. His long, lupine limbs helped him race between trees, and he occasionally lept over the small rivers and streams, passing rabbits and other prey by without a second glance. He lept out of the treeline at a dead sprint, and sighed in silent relieve at the softer ground. He glimpsed white, rose-like, pedals everywhere, and grinned. Moon-flowers. How appropriate. He neared the far edge of the clearing as dawn threatened to breach the morning sky, and slowed down, looking...
She idly picked a flower, and closed her eyes as she twirled it in her fingers. She gently brushed her long brown hair out of her eyes, and sighed softly. She did not open her eyes when her sensitive ears noticed a branch breaking, nor when she felt the earth thunder beneath the wings on her back. She simply twirled her flower, and said "I missed you..."
He walked slowly to her, still on four legs, and sniffed the air hesitantly. She was scentless, but in a field of sweet smelling flowers, it stood out against the powerful aroma. He leaned back upon his haunches, and looked up. Dawn had arrived, and he could feel his fur shedding. His ears perked up as he heard her open her mouth, then speak. "I missed you..." He leaned down, and licked her cheek as the change took hold of him...
She winced in empathy as he whimpered in pain, and the sound slowly died until it was a gentle sniffling. She opened her eyes and sat up, letting her wings stretch a bit. He had thin streaks of blood following his veins that dripped to the white flowers below, and he was completely naked from the change. She rose, and went to hug the shivering young man, wrapping her wings around him. She didn't mind that he was sweating, and bloody. It would wash off. He was here, and that was all that mattered...
He tried as hard as he could to stifle his cries of pain, but the change was short and brief. He was not ashamed to be naked in front of her, he had been before. She did not ask where he had been, or what he had been doing. He did not ask how long she had waited for him, or what she thought. He simple stepped into her embrace, and hugged her fiercely, as if he would never let go. He gentle kissed her bare neck, and whispered in her ear "I promised I'd come back..."
